Barton Tufnol TUPHblox: Hard Fabric Laminate Blocks for Sailing, Industrial and Classic Vessel Applications
Tufnol, also known as hard fabric laminate, is a unique material built up from multiple layers of fabric, laminated and resin-bonded, then heated and compressed to the required thickness. This distinctive construction process results in blocks that withstand the demanding performance and environmental standards required by sailing yachts, commercial applications and industrial users alike. Because Tufnol is non-conductive, it's also the ideal choice for use in explosive environments and hot air balloons.
The TUPHblox range combines the strength of this hard fabric laminate with stainless steel and brass components, resulting in blocks that are both lightweight and exceptionally strong. Since 2024, Barton has once again been manufacturing these Tufnol blocks in-house, returning to its roots as the original pioneer of the hard fabric laminate block (first made back in 1948), to support the needs of classic and heritage vessels worldwide, alongside commercial and industrial users.
TUPHblox blocks are built with 316 marine-grade stainless steel components and brass bearings. The result is a durable line of hard fabric laminate blocks and hardware that delivers high rolling loads, superior strength and durability, and resistance to UV and weathering that lasts the lifetime of the product. While the range includes dedicated wire blocks, even the rope variants are compatible with wire rope.
Looking for an alternative to HYE Tufnol blocks?
Are you used to the well-known Tufnol hard fabric laminate blocks from HYE (Holland Yacht Equipment) and looking for a reliable replacement? Barton TUPHblox is the logical alternative. Barton was in fact the original pioneer of Tufnol blocks, producing them as far back as 1948. When uncertainty arose around HYE's supply, Barton resumed manufacturing these hard fabric laminate blocks itself in 2024, offering the same authentic look and premium quality as the blocks classic vessels worldwide have relied on for decades.
The TUPHblox range is available in sheave sizes from 8 to 16mm, making it suitable for classic yachts up to around 50ft (15 metres). Thanks to its familiar fit and sizing, existing HYE blocks can easily be swapped for a TUPHblox equivalent, without needing to modify your existing rigging.
